First I want to say this is for the Strafe in general, except for when I talk about the cherry switches on this thing, then it’s the silent edition. The rest of the review is for the entire strafe line. Now, I want to know, how do you guys feel about RGB lighting on products? it’s on a lot of computer accessories now, helping people have one person rave parties and blinding yourself in your late-night gaming sessions. My point is, it’s a craze that is here, whether it’s a fad or not. Let’s hope it doesn’t end up like silly bandz or beanie babies. I’m getting a bit off topic here. In the box it comes with the keyboard itself, “FPS and MOBA” keycaps, whatever that means, I’m not a pro gamer and a key cap puller tool. The body of the corsair Strafe keyboard is made of a plastic material that feels pretty durable, even if you try to flex it a bit, it stays practically still and there’s glossy white plastic on the sides. It has the typical back stand things. It also has a usb port up top for pass-through. Which can be pretty useful if you use a desktop pc and don’t want to try to shove anything in the back. Now for the lights. The places it can be “LIT” include the corsair logo on the top left, lighting on the side, the keyboard brightness and windows lock key. Oh yeah, and individual lighting for each key, so you can make skittle colored lights if you like. The light bleeds through against the white background reflecting the light, making it seem even more vibrant and colorful. The LEDs can be changed through the Corsair Utility Engine software. It’s cool cause you can make the spinning beach ball of death, rain drops, ripples, and other cool effects. What’s the lamest thing about this software is that no matter what you do, if you wake the computer, or plug it into a computer that doesn’t have the software installed or doesn’t support the corsair software, BAM red backlighting. The most overused color scheme known to edgy computers. Red/black. When the software does recognize the keyboard, then all your presets work. The cherry mx silent switches in this model is actually pretty quiet. Here’s a sound test of it compared to a laptop keyboard. Overall I like the typing feeling I get from this keyboard, but they are a bit mushy feeling, so if you don’t like that pick a different switch type, but those will probably be a bit louder. Now that we got most of the great things about it out of the way, here’s the bad. No. braided. cables. You know for a $150 product you’d think there’d be braided cables like the ones even cheaper keyboards have. “We have to save 10 cents more!” Many keyboards in this price range also come with a cable that can be disconnected from the keyboard, this one is well… not. Thanks. I may just be picky at this point but since these keys are so wide apart, hair, dust and grime easily gets into the cracks meaning if you want that white back plate thing to look good, you’re going to have to clean it quite often. Good thing you can remove the keys to do so… if you remember where each one was before you took them out. Have fun. Overall, I think it’s a good keyboard but is it worth 150? Sorta. For keyboards in general? No. But for that one person who absolutely needs a rainbow keyboard for some odd reason, yes. It’s priced pretty well considering all the features that come with it when compared to the competition. And it’s been my personal keyboard for nearly a year now.
