Overgrown entanglements can be extremely difficult to detect, especially when a seal's skin has healed and built a scar over the fishing line, forming a new protective layer without breaking the plastic loop. These scars often resemble scars from previous disentanglements, with only small knots or tags visible as clues. In remote areas like Torra Bay, there are no such things as recaptures. Rescue patrols can only happen every few months. By the time the OCN team returns for the next patrol, most wounds from previous rescues have healed up and can no longer be detected. This seal was incredibly fortunate to be found, as the loop would have continued to tighten with the seal's natural growth, causing severe harm. Well done, Chelsea! 🦭 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Please visit our website to find out more about our work and how to support us: ➡ Website: https://www.ocnamibia.org/ ➡ Donate via Paypal: https://ow.ly/BTm550PIavq ➡ Donate via Stripe: https://ow.ly/Xy1F50PIMzQ ➡ Support via Patreon: / ocn ➡ FAQs: https://www.ocnamibia.org/faqs Follow us on social media: ➡ Instagram: / oceanconservationnamibia ➡ Facebook: / ocnamibia ➡ TikTok: / oc_namibia ➡ LinkedIn: / ocnamibia ➡ Twitter: / ocnamibia 😊 Thank you for every like, share, comment and subscribe 😊 Ocean Conservation International is registered as a non-profit organisation under chapter 501(c)3.
