Cheras Sentral Mall, originally known as Phoenix Plaza, is located at Jalan 3/144A Off Jalan Cheras, KM10, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia1. The mall opened its doors in the late 1990s and was once a bustling shopping destination in the Cheras area. During its peak, Phoenix Plaza housed popular retail outlets like iSetan and Toys ‘R’ Us, attracting a steady stream of visitors. However, the mall’s fortunes began to decline in the early 2000s due to various factors, including increased competition from newer malls and economic downturns. The once-thriving shopping center saw a significant drop in foot traffic and tenant occupancy, leading to its eventual closure. In an attempt to revive its former glory, the mall underwent extensive renovations and was rebranded as Cheras Sentral Mall in 2013. The revamp included modernizing the mall’s exterior and interior, adding new retail outlets, and promising improved accessibility with the construction of a nearby MRT station. Despite these efforts, the mall struggled to regain its popularity. Issues such as limited parking and confusing interior layouts persisted, deterring potential visitors. Today, Cheras Sentral Mall is often cited as an example of a “dead mall” in Malaysia. Many of its retail spaces remain vacant, and the mall fails to attract significant foot traffic. The promised MRT station, which was expected to boost visitor numbers, did not have the anticipated impact. The mall’s current state reflects the broader challenges faced by many older shopping centers in adapting to changing consumer preferences and the rise of e-commerce. Cheras Sentral Mall’s journey from a bustling retail hub to a struggling shopping center highlights the dynamic nature of the retail industry and the importance of continuous adaptation to market trends. =============================================== Sent me a Whatsapp directly : http://wa.me/60123749288 You can also find me at PropertyGuru : http://tinyurl.com/8ucsmzh9 and iProperty too https://tinyurl.com/3rkkva45 For In-person Viewing please contact Chester Cheng +6012-3749288.
