Open Telemetry (or OTel) provides a common vocabulary and interface for Cloud Native applications for metrics, logs, and traces, it has interfaces with all of the most popular observability platforms, and instrumentation for a wide array of workloads. In this interview, Dave Neary talks to Antoine Toulmé, Principal Product Manager at Splunk, a Cisco company, and a core contributor to the Open Telemetry collector project. Antoine shares an overview of what Open Telemetry is, and how it connects Kubernetes applications to observability platforms like Splunk. They also talk about how Ampere has helped improve the level of support for arm64 by providing an easy option for CI for the project using GitHub Actions and Actuated, and to share the current state of arm64 support and usage by Open Telemetry community members.
