Located 15 miles west of Myrtle Beach, the historic city is an important part of the Grand Strand, despite its more inland location. Unofficially, Conway is known as “the gateway to the Grand Strand” as many visitors to the area must drive through the city to reach their destination in Myrtle Beach or surrounding communities. First settled in 1732 as Kingston, this city has a rich history including the American Revolution and the “naval stores” industry of the mid-1800’s. Much of current-day historic downtown was built in the early 1900’s after a major fire ravaged the area.
