The bridge of the nose is what is prominently visible on the face. So the causes for pain in this region are generally secondary to some sort of inflammation. The inflammation may be secondary to any injury, some may have a knock on the nose. The pain may be associated with swelling, redness and probably in any occasional patient may have a black eye. So the bone under the eye gets fractured . So the nasal bones they forma the main bony support of the dorsum of the upper part of the nose. If this cracks, then they can have a fracture of the nasal bone. Now these are trauma related pain many people experience pain without any trauma. Now this pain without trauma can occur when there is any infection in the nose. This infection can be as trivial as infection below the skin, called as cellulitis or infection of the hair follicle around the nose. That could have got infected and ceased a pain to something like common cold leading to sinusitis can cause pain . And an occasional patient can have neurological pain which manifests in that area. So these pains cannot be differentiated by a layman. So if any pain which persists for more than 24 to 36 hours and does not subside with over the counter drugs like paracetamol, it is advisable for the patient to go and consult the relevant specialist.
