Today I travel across the Dominican Republic from Puerto Plata to the capital, Santo Domingo 🇩🇴. I take a comfortable Caribe Tours bus and enjoy watching the landscape change as I move from the northern coast toward the country’s vibrant heart. After arriving in Santo Domingo, I find my way to my accommodation, Residencial La Fonte, located right in the city center. Once checked in, I head out for an evening walk to get my first impressions of the capital. I explore the area around Christopher Columbus Park (Parque Colón), read up on the history of Columbus, and take in the atmosphere of one of the most historically important places in the Caribbean. For dinner, I stop at a local restaurant and enjoy calamari and fried seafood — a perfect first taste of Santo Domingo. Back at my accommodation, I start planning the next big chapter of my journey. Colombia is coming up soon, and before entering the country, I need to arrange proof of onward travel. At the same time, I’m trying to decide how to continue my route toward Peru — a decision that turns out to be far from easy.
