The culogordo is one of the iconic models in the automobile history. In the 1970s, the competition division of Renault worked hard to create a car that could face up to the terrifying Lancia Stratos, one of the dominators of the era. After numerous tests and changes in the project, the French manufacturer decided to conserve only one part of the bodywork of its star model, the R5, and develop the majority of the remaining components separately. This is how the Turbo was born, with a central propulsion engine, instead of the front engine and traction of the street model. A change of concept that was accompanied by a wild supercharger and some enormous rear wheel arches, that gave the presumed cinquillo a robust, threatening character. The régie Renault entrusted a man of the house, Guy Frequelin, with the debut of the model in the 1979 Giro d’Italia [Tour of Italy], which is the model that we reproduced.
