Geetha Krishnakumar started her journey in dance at the age of five under the tutelage of Smt. Saraswathy Malhothra. Later, she was blessed to be trained in Bharathanatyam under eminent Gurus like Sarvasree Sucheendram M. M. Pillai, Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai and Padmabhooshan Adayar. K. Lekshman.Smt. Geetha joined the Kuchipudi Art Academy, Chennai in 1980 and mastered the dance form under the able guidance of Guru Padmabhooshan Dr. Vempatti Chinna Sathyam. She is a disciple of Kalamandalam Nelliyodu Vasudevan Namboothiri in Kathakali, Kalamandalam Vimala Menon and Cheganoor Vijayan Mash in Mohiniyattom and Smt. Thiruvalla Ponnamma in Ottam Thullal.Smt. Geetha Krishnakumar won several accolades during her formative years in school and college, including the title of 'Kerala University Overall Champion' (Present Kalathilakam) in the Kerala University Youth Festival for three consecutive years. Her dedication and passion for classical dance led her to lay the foundation for Darpana Nrithya Kshethra. About Darpana, Darpana Nrithya Kshethra is a renowned Temple of Arts in the capital city of God's own country. A brain child of Guru Smt. Geetha Krishnakumar, Darpana was founded four decades back and has ever since opened the world of Indian classical dances in the purest form to its students. With unwavering devotion, sincerity and hardwork, Darpana has nurtured and raised innumerable talented students, many of whom are accomplished artists now.
