This makes the brain more susceptible to the harmful effects of marijuana use. This presentation will provide easy to understand information about the impact of marijuana on the teen brain. This information is meant to provide guidance for parents (and teens) on setting appropriate expectations in a world of increasing marijuana acceptance. Learning Objectives • Learn how marijuana interacts with the brain to produce its effects • Understand the unique aspects of adolescent brain development that make it more susceptible to the impact of marijuana • Focus on the impact that marijuana has on adolescent brain development and mental health • Understand the connection between adolescent marijuana use and increased risk for psychotic disorders Speaker Bio Matthew Quinn provides community relations for Rosecrance Health Network in the Chicagoland area. He completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Notre Dame and Master’s Degree in clinical psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Matthew is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) in Illinois. He was the program coordinator for the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Linden Oaks at Elmhurst for eight years prior to coming to Rosecrance. He was previously a therapeutic mentor for troubled teens and a member advocate for an employee assistance program (EAP) as well. He has been counseling adolescents and adults in individual, couples, and family counseling for the past 15 years. Questions?
