HE President, Maithripala Sirisena to open (නෙලුම් කුළුණ) Lotus Tower – the highest self-supported structure in South Asia – this evening at Monday, September 16, 2019 - 05:21 PM Colombo Lotus Tower, is a tower of 356 m (1,168 ft), located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It also reflects the symbolic landmark of Sri Lanka. As of 16 September 2019, the tower is currently the tallest self-supported structure in South Asia. It is also the second tallest structure in South Asia after the guy-wire-supported INS Kattabomman in India. The tower is also the 11th tallest completed tower in Asia and it is also the 19th tallest tower in the world. The lotus-shaped tower will be used for communication, observation and other leisure facilities, with construction costing $104.3 million, funded by EXIM Bank of People's Republic of China. The tower consists of 17 storeys and is 350 meters in high and was built at a cost of US$ 104 million. The tower has been constructed with 80% of the funds being provided by the Republic of China. Lotus Tower Colombo, the tallest tower in the South Asian region will be declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena on September 16 at 5pm. The US$ 104 M investment will consist of a telecommunication museum, restaurant, supermarkets, food courts, conference halls, a 1,000-seat auditorium, luxury hotel rooms, ballrooms and an observation gallery. This area can be used for holding open shows, meetings and events. Tower House The section known as the Tower House is in the shape of a lotus. The colours of the lotus petals change periodically. With a height of 45 metres from 215 to 260 metres, this section has nine levels. The first and second levels are exclusively for radio and television transmissions; the first level is exclusively for radio transmission, while the second level is dedicated to television transmission. Antenna Mast The Antenna Mast at the top of the tower is the main feature of Lotus Tower. The entire length of the Antenna Mast is about 90 metres and it is a heavy steel structure.
