Just because your child is [h]earing doesn't mean you must use your voice, it doesn't mean you need to shift to a more watered-down ASL, and it doesn't mean you need to Sim-Com. We need to re-frame our practices. My purpose is to encourage best practices, foster fluid dialogue, and to cultivate communication between Coda and parent(s). Whether that means using ASL, PSE, or SEE doesn't matter --- what matters is that your child is properly exposed to whatever communication style you (parent) employ. Forget about what family members, purported experts, or your own inhibitions may tell you about not using sign language with your kids. "My koda's don't like to sign," why is there even an option? Do they like to brush their teeth? If their teeth aren't falling out, then nor should their hands fall down to their laps when conversing with you. You are your Koda's language-model, and as such you are responsible for their early ASL development.
