A short video outlining the position of UK copyright law on issues such as copying, file sharing, format shifting backups and other common uses of IP. In 2011, the UK government initiated an independent review of intellectual property, carried out by Professor Ian Hargreaves: http://webarchive.nationalarchives.go... The Hargreaves Review of Intellectual Property and Growth was published in May 2011, making 10 recommendations to "ensure that the UK has an IP framework best suited to supporting innovation and promoting economic growth in the digital age". These videos – produced during the public consultation period following the publication of the Review – explore those proposals and the arguments on both sides of the debate. In October 2014, the UK government introduced for the first time a private copying exception that allows end users to make ‘personal copies for private use’ of content they ‘lawfully acquired on a permanent basis’.
