Protecting Florida's Coral Reefs: Water Quality and Coral Health

Did you know that Florida's Reef Tract is the third largest barrier reef in the world (The Meso-American Reef off Caribbean Central America and Mexico and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia are 2nd and 1st, respectively)? And did you know that the northernmost end of the Florida Reef Tract ends right in Martin County? Learn more about Florida's coral reefs and how changes in water quality impact coral health. Dr. Joshua Voss, Associate Research Professor at Florida Atlantic University's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, describes his research on corals in this 2021 Water Ambassador webinar. His research interests cover shallow and mesophotic coral reef ecology, coral health and disease, molecular ecology, marine conservation and management. Dr. Voss is also the executive director of NOAA's Cooperative Institute for Ocean Exploration, Research, and Technology and was FAU's 2019 Researcher of the Year.
