I really like this feature in Google Maps and one that you probably don't hear of that much and that is the ability to measure distances. You can measure a distance and also measure a route.You can also add in points so you can take a detour and include that in the measurement. You can easily change from metres to feet, kilometres to miles. Changing from metric to imperial or vice versa is as easy as clicking on the scale in the bottom right hand corner. However, you will see in this video it always shows both. Not only have I found this useful but particularly handy when flying a drone and needing to know how far a building is or where people might be so that I can keep my distance.
