Hands-on with a Supermicro 4P Intel Cooper Lake Xeon Server

We had the opportunity to get some hands-on time with the Supermicro SYS-240P-TNRT 4P server ahead of today's Cooper Lake/ Cedar Island 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable launch. Cooper Lake is designed to provide bfloat16 instruction support for AI training as well as 6x UPI links to double inter-socket bandwidth in 4P configurations. They offer support for second-generation Optane Persistent Memory or PMem 200. These 4-socket Cooper Lake Xeon Scalable platforms will be the top-end 4-socket Xeon solution until Sapphire Rapids Xeons in late 2021. Since there are no trade shows, we set up some time as the Silicon Valley shelter-in-place order eased to go see the new 4P Cooper Lake Xeon server at Supermicro headquarters. Since we are using Supermicro's demo room, they are helping film the footage, they are providing the servers, and have project managers available for this and some of the other servers we looked at, we are calling this sponsored content. This was the only way I could do my normal trade-show coverage and I retained complete editorial control over the video.
