Toyota 7M Cylinder Head Exhaust Studs HELICOIL Mod - 1987 Supra MK3

A common problem for the old 7M cylinder head is exhaust studs being unable to maintain the factory recommended torque when exhaust nuts are tightened. The studs usually pull out due to the threads failing on the aluminum cylinder head. A popular solution is to install helicoils and so this is how I went about fixing my cylinder head exhaust stud threads. With this mod, I am now able to tighten my exhaust nuts to 29 ft lbs and fix the exhaust manifold leak. It's well worth doing especially since my engine is out of the car.
