Giessbachfälle or Giessbach Falls are a fantastic waterfall sight in Switzerland and are located near the Brienz alpine pasture Axalp. The Giessbach plunges down to the lake Brienz in spectacular water cascades with 14 steps over a height difference of 500 m. As a special attraction, the footpath leads over a bridge under the thundering waterfall. There, the power of the water can be impressively experienced and you can feel the water spray. At the foot of the waterfall lies the historic Grandhotel Giessbach, which is connected to the Bernese Oberland by the Giessbachbahn, one of the oldest funicular railways in Europe, with the boat station on the lake. The beautiful old paddle steamers still operate on Lake Brienz. The hotel was built between 1873 and 1875 by the French hotelier family Hauser. Karl Hauser commissioned the most renowned hotel builder of the time, Horace Edouard Davinet, to plan a new building.
