This webinar discusses how the BSEd Mathematics program has been designed to respond to the needs of the K to 12 programs and to meet global standards such as those set in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) for 15-year old learners. The following areas are underscored: content demands, cognitive processes, 21st-century skills, and some contexts emphasized in PISA mathematics literacy and PISA financial literacy; some of the cognitive and social processes in PISA collaborative problem-solving skills; and some of the content domains and competencies of PISA creative thinking. The webinar also discusses the gaps with reference to the PISA frameworks and proposes recommendations on how to align mathematics teacher preparation and the current practices of in-service teachers to deepen content knowledge, cognitive processes, and 21st-century skills, and how these are applied in personal, occupational, societal, and global contexts similar to how mathematics knowledge and skills are assessed in PISA.
