Use of Artificial intelligence in Diagnosis,Prognostication,& Management of Neuroendocrine Neoplasms

Post-Conference Pathology Symposium: Advances in Diagnosis, Prognostication, and Management of GEP Neuroendocrine Neoplasms Date: October 14, 2025 Venue: Auditorium PKLI & RC, Lahore The Post-Conference Pathology Symposium, held in conjunction with the 46th International Conference of the Pakistan Association of Pathologists (PAP), focused intensively on the latest developments concerning Gastro-Entero-Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms (GEP-NENs). The session provided a comprehensive, multidisciplinary review spanning clinical care, advanced diagnostics, surgical techniques, and cutting-edge molecular research. Clinical and Pathological Foundations Prof Faisal Dar Dean PKLI thanked the guests speakers and PAP for conducting such informative symposium. The symposium opened with a presentation by Prof. Bilal Ahmad, MD, FACP, FRCP from the University of Rochester, NY, USA, who provided essential coverage of the Clinical aspects of pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms. This foundational talk established the necessary context for subsequent, deeper discussions. Following this, Prof. Mulazim Hussin Bukhari, MD, MPHIL, FCPS, PhD, President of PAP, addressed the critical correlation of clinico-pathologic findings in pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms, underscoring the necessity of linking clinical observations with specific histological diagnoses for accurate patient management. The scope of diagnosis was expanded by Prof. Ehsan Ullah, MBBCh, MPhil, PhD of Middlebrook Hospital, New Zealand, who introduced the concept of A Multi-modal Paradigm in Onco-Pathology and its potential applications for neuroendocrine tumours. This presentation highlighted the importance of integrating various diagnostic tools—such as imaging and pathology—for a comprehensive understanding of the disease. Molecular Diagnostics and Therapeutic Perspectives Moving into the realm of precision medicine, Prof. Aejaz Nasir, MD, MPhil, FCAP, BJ's Diagnostics & Precision Oncology, USA, delivered a key talk on Novel molecular biomarkers for prognostication and management of pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms. This session focused on how advanced molecular testing is shaping predictive modeling and guiding personalized therapy. The subsequent segment provided crucial therapeutic viewpoints, beginning with the surgical perspective. Dr Muhammad Yasir Khan, MD, of PKLI & RC, presented the Surgical oncologist's perspective on GEP neuroendocrine neoplasms, focusing on critical considerations for intervention. Complementing this, Prof Dr. Zeba Aziz,, a Medical Oncologist from PKLI & RC, offered the Medical oncologist's perspective, covering systemic treatment strategies for advanced disease. Research Infrastructure and Omics Translation The latter part of the symposium shifted focus to the future of research and innovation in Pakistan. Prof. Kashif Asghar, PhD of PKLI & RC, delivered a talk emphasizing The Role of Biobanks in Shaping Pakistan's Research Horizon, highlighting the foundational institutional importance of establishing bio-repositories for scientific advancement. Concluding the educational sessions, Dr. Safee Ullah Chaudhary, PhD from LUMS, explored the advanced topic of Translating Next Generation Omics into Cancer Systems Biology Prognostics. This forward-looking presentation detailed how complex high-throughput molecular data is being harnessed to improve predictive models and refine prognosis for cancer patients. The symposium successfully delivered a rich educational program, emphasizing collaboration across various medical disciplines and setting a clear roadmap for integrating contemporary diagnostic and therapeutic strategies into the management of GEP-NENs.
