This is the contextual information video for the months July and August. The script can be read below Torr Head used to be the place of Barrach’s fort, one of the red branch warriors. When he died, a tomb was built for him to the west around 4000 years ago. It has been used as a coastguard, built in 1822 overlooking the strongest currents of Northern Ireland and the beautiful cliffs of Scotland 12 miles away, the nearest point to Scotland in the whole of Ireland. During World war one, it was used as a look out post to protect the coastline, and acted as Lloyd’s Signal Station for the ships in the North Sea. Workers here had houses at the bottom of the head, complete with stables and chimney cookers. However, the coastguard and houses were abandoned in 1922 as technology advancements rendered the coastguard unfeasible.
