A domestic violence restraining order (DVRO) in California is a family court order that can protect a victim of domestic violence by preventing that victim’s spouse or ex-spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend, or ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend from going near and contacting that person. It can also provide the victim of domestic violence with sole custody of a child he/she has in common with the alleged perpetrator of domestic violence.
