A few days after the launch of Half-Life's 25th anniversary update, I decided to check out the server browser during my lunch break. What immediately transfixed me was a server bearing one simple name, "Half-Life Co-op | High difficulty", with a player limit of 32. Yes, thirty-two was the optimal amount of souls to be trapped within this hellish stamping ground, according to the server owner, and to my infinite astonishment, there was one last player slot available, just for me, so what else could I do but to jump in? What I found inside was exactly what I expected, a gathering of 32 gamers doing their absolute best to make a playthrough of Half-Life be as miserable, offensive, chaotic, and noisy as possible for each other. There were no rules, no admins, not even the slighest notion of any sort of order or control, just all of us crammed into a tiny shipping container and sent on our way through a positively ear-bursting adventure through Half-Life's now 25 year old campaign.
