Delayed this for a good long while now but after some practice and getting some really good RNG on the most broken weapon the game has, this run was super smooth till the last stage (well after mini bosses in stage 3.) B.Rap Boys special, the sequel to you guessed it...DJ Boy but this time with some actual research instead of the devs just thinking what America is like. This here is the special version, a revised version of the 1st game with rebalanced difficulty and swapping the barrage of enemies with some more tank unique ones. It's basically Kaneko's streets of rage but instead of stopping a syndicate, three of our playable characters set out to enter a death match to prove themselves to be the strongest in the streets (at least that's what I got from this.) It keeps the rollerblades from DJ boy but vastly improves the controls, much faster and responsive and combat is sweet...well for player 1 because the other two characters, Pea and Pan can't get far without help from another player (trust me I tried.) Graphics are nicer, enemies aren't random stereotypes anymore, the stages are pretty long and chopped up into an auto scrolling segment and a beat 'em up segment much like DJ boy. It's only 3 stages but I guarantee you though, with how aggressive the AI is it's a bit of a chore to go through. IT DOES however make up for the weapons. For the auto scrolling levels, Pea can use a skateboard while Top uses his bike, Pan being the powerhouse just uses his fists. In the beat em up levels you only get two weapon pick ups, the bat and the almighty wooden stick. What's amusing is each of the three characters have their own style of using each one like how Top uses it like a sword. By all means... DO NOT LOSE THE STICK, the bat is okay but doesn't have much range, the stick is very much broken since it deals good damage and at the same time long range, it hits multiple enemies too which can make the game incredibly fair with how aggressive and fast enemies are. Still, even without the stick it is still doable with just your fists...if you're playing as Top. Pea, the short dude is weak and has short range but is the fastest out of all 3. Pan is the power house, slow and tank like and pretty hard to use. Stick to Top the other two really can't do much without help from another player. Top also uses the stick much better. Stage 1 is fine, stage 2 is where it starts to get harder, it doesn't help that you only get health refills at certain parts of stages, health item pick ups would've made this much better. Stage 3...if you didn't get the stick, pray you at least have maybe 3 more lives on you once you're on top of the lift, get the stick again and try to keep it till the mid boss. The final stretch of the game is a boss rush and then you fight dude himself in stage 1. Don't be daunted too much, you just wanted to get hits on him diagonally when he's close, retreat if's out of your reach. Once you finish the guy, you're now number one! Balanced difficulty, a funky array of characters and enemies, licensed music from an obscure rap band called 3 stories high, it's a fun game to go through with friends honestly. Just a shame I can't find the source of the other songs, specifically the "word to the wise" one and the music used for stage 3 (the lift and the one before the mid boss.) The songs that were used is Average Day and Famous last words, the track for thboss music and auto scrolling level in stage 2 is titled "God Bless You" from a compilation called Dance / Pop Music. Not the best beat 'em up for sure but it is a personal fave with how gimmicky it is and the music just really good, and this was before Jet Set Radio, another game with skates and licensed music. PS, also love the characters are just from the Jackie Chan flick called Project A, the bike combat is already a dead give away.
