Snow-covered trails lead between beautiful sandstone bluffs to an 80-foot frozen waterfall that looks like a giant crystal of ice. Fed by an underground spring, this canyon flows longer than most, creating a stunning icefall deep into winter. The quiet forest, soft snow, and shimmering frozen cascade make this one of the most magical winter scenes in Illinois. Parking Info: St. Louis Canyon parking is located in a small 20–25 spot lot directly off IL-178, across from Grand Bear Resort, providing quick access to the trailhead. Because of its limited size, the lot fills quickly—arriving before 10 a.m. is highly recommended. Note: There are no restrooms at this lot.
