In this video, I‘ll take a look at SmallRig’s VB99 Pro Mini V-Mount battery, which I chose to power my Canon R5C for my latest round of external batteries. I explain why I selected the VB99 Pro Mini over other options—chief among them, USB-C PD support, compact travel-safe capacity, and versatile output ports. I dive deep into how the VB99 distributes its 100-watt power budget across its ports, including two USB-C PD ports, one USB-A, and dual DC outputs. Power is dynamically allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with certain port-specific limitations. For example, the second USB-C port is capped at 45 watts, even if there’s more capacity remaining. I also break down compatibility quirks, such as the GoPro Hero 12 failing to power via the USB-A port due to a likely protocol mismatch, while other gear worked without issue. Beyond USB power, the DC outputs are rated at 8V and 12V and deliver enough capacity to reliably power devices like Atomos Ninja monitors and mirrorless cameras using dummy batteries. I share real-world usage notes, including the battery’s ability to run two R5-series cameras simultaneously over USB-C and how it holds up under high-draw lighting tests—sometimes even exceeding its 100W rating under real-world conditions. Lastly, I review the user interface, which is simple yet informative. The battery includes a real-time LCD display that shows port-specific voltages or wattage, charge state, and total power draw. The VB99 Pro Mini isn’t perfect, but for the price and capabilities, it’s a solid starter V-Mount battery that suits my mobile and on-location shooting needs. #VMountBattery #SmallRigVB99 #FilmmakingGear #CanonR5C #PowerYourRig ══════════════════════ 💵 Support the Channel and Content Like This 💵 ══════════════════════ ⯈ Click the Thanks Button under the video. ⯈ Use PayPal: https://paypal.me/pointsinfocus ⯈ Buy yourself something from the affiliate links below. ⯈ Amazon.com: https://amzn.to/4dloDzU ══════════════════════ Gear I Use to Make Videos ══════════════════════ (Affiliate links) ⯈ Canon EOS R5 - https://amzn.to/3uJNNVI ⯈ Canon EOS R5 Mark II - ⯈ Canon EOS R5C - https://amzn.to/4goyveX ⯈ SmallRig NP-F Battery Adapter Pro (power for extended shooting time)- https://amzn.to/3ybCY3h ⯈ Anker Prime 27650 mAh Power Bank - https://amzn.to/4dsP8o4 ⯈ Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM - https://amzn.to/37SuLDw ⯈ Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM - https://amzn.to/3M9I0yQ ⯈ Rode NTG2 - ⯈ Rode Wireless Go - ⯈ Zoom F6 - https://amzn.to/2TWsSvo ══════════════════════ Chapters ══════════════════════ 00:00 Intro 03:16 How I ended up with the VB99 Pro Mini 09:47 VB99 Pro Mini Capabilities 13:03 Charging with the USB-C Port 13:57 Type-A Port Compatibility Problems 16:15 Regulated DC Ports 19:22 Battery Ratings and Actual Limits 21:14 Power Reservations are Reservations 22:39 Battery Tests 26:30 Battery UI
