As we celebrate this great and ideal devotee, let us hear from Bhagawan about the greatness of Hanuman. From Bhagawan's Divine Discourse, October 10, 1997: At all times, at all places and under all circumstances, chant the name of God. At no time Hanuman had any trace of ego or pomp. He felt like a servant in front of Rama but in front of Ravana, he was a man of valour and courage. In front of Rama, he remained a servant. Hanuman went around all of Ashoka Garden as he liked. There, the demons had never seen any monkey before. They wanted to see this funny monkey. One demon asked thus: “Who are you?” He (Hanuman) said in all humility, “I am the servant of Ramachandra.” Hanuman served Rama peacefully with all his endearment and love, in a soft way, with a spirit of dedication. Ultimately, he was caught in the hands of the demons there and was taken to Ravana. He (Ravana) said, “Get down first. Sit on the ground.” Ravana sat there on the throne. (Hanuman thought): “It is not proper for this wicked man to sit on the top and the servant of the Lord (me) to sit on the ground.” He prolonged his tail more and more, coiled it round and round and occupied a higher level than Ravana himself. Then, Ravana started questioning. “You are a monkey. Who sent you here? You belong to that race of monkeys. Who sent you here?” Smilingly, Hanuman said, “The one who has cut off the nose and ear of your sister has sent me here. He only sent me here!” What a direct and prompt answer he gave! In fact, there we find the capacity and the power of Lord Rama. That is the nature of the total merger or sayujya. In fact, there is Divinity in a devotee! All the demons were moving about hither and thither. The whole of Lanka was set on fire. People were shouting. “Who sent this monkey that has spoilt and disturbed the entire premises?” But the wife of Vibhishana (Sarama) and his children knew (about Hanuman) and offered their prayers. They were so happy and felt, “We can't see Rama but we could experience Rama through His servant. The servant of Rama is like a pure mirror. In that mirror, we see the reflection of Ramachandra.” A devotee should be like a pure and clean mirror. There should not be any dirt of ego and pomp on this clean mirror.
