What happens when your mind gets infected by photos you've seen online? What happens when you get fixated on trying to find the exact spot where those photos were taken? That's exactly what happened to me in this episode of the vlog. Dusy Basin is one of the classic Sierra locations that every hiker should see at least once in their life. In late August 2020 I finally made my first trip to this spectacular rocky amphitheater. Conditions were wildly varying over the four days I spent in the area, ranging from heavy thunderstorms, to crystaline blue skies, the howling winds, to heavy smoke. This made the photography fun and varied. My goal for the first day of trekking was to get into the heart of Dusy Basin itself to photograph the lakes there. One problem: I had seen so many photos of Dusy Basin online that I had broken my #1 rule of photography: get rid of your expectations! I felt mentally stuck, wanting only to recreate some of the same photos I'd seen online. Can I break out of this bad habit and find my own shots??
