France Eyes Naval Escort Mission in Hormuz, Macron Announces Warship Deployments | APT

Speaking alongside regional leaders, Macron stressed that France’s military deployments reflect strong strategic partnerships and a commitment to collective security. He said the goal is to ensure freedom of navigation and maritime security across critical routes, including the eastern Mediterranean and the Red Sea from the Suez Canal to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. France will also contribute two frigates to the European maritime security mission “Aspides,” which is headquartered in Greece and currently coordinated by Athens. Macron added that discussions are underway to establish a defensive escort operation involving both European and non-European states. The mission would help reopen the Strait of Hormuz to container ships and oil tankers once the most intense phase of regional conflict subsides. He also called for close coordination among G7 countries to manage energy challenges and support efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region.
