How to Start Beekeeping with Package Bees

In this video, we show how to install a package of honey bees, easily. Watch and see how I installed a 3-pound package of Italian honey bees. In the world of beekeeping, there are many ways to do any one task and I'll be the first to tell you that, I am LEARNING. In fact, I think I'll be learning for probably my whole beekeeping life. We started beekeeping in the spring of 2018 and have been at it since, with a wide range of experiences and emotions. Beekeeping is an incredible learning experience and every day brings something new. Beekeeping for us is really a hobby at this point and we hope to someday recoup some of our expenses by selling some honey or even some of our bees for others to enjoy. We believe that being a maker is a very broad term and that is why we are including this beekeeping video. In many ways, being a maker has parallels to homesteading -- both homesteaders and makers are willing to put in the time and effort to do things for themselves. Whether you're taking care of bees or making a piece of furniture, you're more or less flipping the switch on a consumer mentality. You're putting in the hard work to independently have the things you need. When you're a beekeeping, you're sourcing your own honey instead of relying on the supermarket. To us, these concepts are all part of the same sphere.
