Presider: Fr. Arul Ponnaiyan Parish: St. Paul & Sacred Heart Choir: St. John XXIII TEXT FROM THE HOMILY The hospitality that I have experienced here in the America surpasses what I have experienced in other countries including my home country. What I mean, hospitality here is the kindness and the generosity to the strangers for me. I totally believe that hospitality gives us an opportunity to get our relationship deeper with one another. So today's story the journey of Emmaus of the two of Jesus' disciples is our story it tells us, it speaks to us about the hospitality of two of the disciples. So let us just take a look at the story a little bit. The two disciples they are going away from Jerusalem, meaning they are leaving Christ and going the wrong direction and at first when Jesus joins their journey and converses with them, they do not recognize Jesus. They see him as a stranger even when Jesus breaks open the word and explains to them the scripture. But everything changes when they extend their hospitality to the stranger. First they offer a free shelter to Jesus and then they invite Jesus to share their bread and in the breaking of the bread their eyes are opened and they recognize who Jesus was. And I always look up to Mother Theresa for my inspiration and I remember her words, She said “All the poor people that I serve and care for, each of them is Jesus in disguise.” Yes, brothers and sisters, when we break the bread and share with the poor we share the bread with Jesus himself. So brothers and sisters if we learn to embrace hospitality as our way of life, we can be Christ our way of life, we can be Christ to one another.
