Embracing the Emotional Journey of Athletic Retirement with Adam Boardman, Clinical Psychologist In honor of mental health awareness month, we have the pleasure to have Adam Boardman, a licensed therapist, run this session on embracing the emotional journey of athletic retirement. We will cover the following questions and topics: What is the process of grief trying to tell us? How can we respond in a healthy way? Challenges and opportunities when embracing grief Loss, identity shift and coping strategies About Adam Boardman: Adam Boardman grew up playing tackle football, basketball, and building increasingly dangerous BMX jumps in his neighborhood with his idiot buddies before picking up distance running in high school. He ran collegiately for Pomona College, a 5 time national qualifier in Cross Country and Track who was named to the 1999 NCAA All American XC Team. Since college he has competed in 5 marathons (including Boston 2018), rides his gravel and road bikes as much as possible, and loves to ski and climb mountains. He is now a psychotherapist in private practice based in Los Angeles and specializes in athlete mental health, men in relationships, and perfectionism. He gives talks on athlete mental health and leadership as well as co-hosts the podcast "Mental State." You can learn more about him or reach out at adamboardmanmft.com. About The Monthly Huddles: These monthly huddles are group coaching sessions open exclusively for our members (athletes and former athletes). On the first Friday of each month, one of our coaches leads a one-hour coaching session, providing you with life coaching tips and the opportunity to connect with other athletes/former athletes. These calls are a great way to maintain what you have learned through our programs or to explore our coaching method and connect with our community if you are a former athlete.
