A native of Akron, OH, he began his medical career as a physical therapist. After graduating from Walsh University with a masters degree in physical therapy, he went on to become a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist. He became the director of physical therapy for Kent State University in Kent, Ohio prior to returning to medical school. He attended medical school at Ohio University and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Doctors Hospital and Grant Medical Center in Columbus Ohio.
