Dealing with stormwater drainage problems? 🌧️ These homeowners in Central New Jersey watched rainwater creep toward their house every time it stormed. Their backyard sits lower than the front yard, so runoff from the roof and lawn—and even water from higher neighboring properties—was pooling behind the home. A neighbor’s sloped driveway made the situation even worse. In this first video of our two-part project, we install a large dry well system using infiltrator chambers, stone, and filter fabric. (Also known as a soakaway, soak trench, seepage trench, leach pit, soakwell, infiltration pit, or stormwater recharge system.) This underground system gives water a safe place to go so it can naturally dissipate into the soil instead of flooding the yard. To make the system work, we: ✔️ Installed catch basins to capture water and stop debris ✔️ Connected multiple downspouts and a sump pump discharge ✔️ Tied in an existing smaller dry well 👉 In Part 2, we’ll expand the system by tying in even more downspouts and using excavated soil to help stop the neighbor’s stormwater from ending up in this backyard.
