Those who have been through it or are going through it definitely get it and understand. most people don't even know their victims of this until they are well into a relationship with these people. The Definition: Gaslighting is a form of emotional abuse that's seen in abusive relationships. It's the act of manipulating a person by forcing them to question their thoughts, memories, and the events occurring around them. A victim of gaslighting can be pushed so far that they question their own sanity. Manipulating OTHERS (not just you) so they see you differently. While your shoutin love from the rooftops, these monsters are telling very select close friends, yours and theirs and other family members, yours and theirs that your mentally ill and most likely bi poplar or some other illness.....And abusive. They give you love then abruptly take it away. Sometimes even going completey silent When you try to express yourself or any concerns they become very dismissive. Your needs or wants are not a concern at all! Ever! Most interactions with them privately leave you feeling small and ashame. Most times being treated like a child as apposed to a partner. They assign motives to your actions that are the opposite of your intentions. They will provoke and provoke you on something for days and then when they see you getting irritated and angrier by the day and by the minute, they will push harder and harder, then they will hit record on their phone and record the ugliest part of your arguement so they can later use that little piece down the line to show how "crazy "YOU" are". That one's personal. YES!! They really are that sick! You find yourself questioning your beliefs and opinions. If your point of view doesnt match theirs, your wrong! AND EVERYTHING IS YOUR FAULT! 0ther Examples -Your over reacting -I'm just joking ( when they clearly said something that wasn't a joke, more of a way of delivering an insult and tryin pass it off as a joke -That didn't happen that way -Ok, I said that but its not what I meant. -I didn't say that -Your imagining things -Your sick. You need help One that was used on me quite frequently is after witnessing multiple moments of questionable behavior, when I finally respond in a frustrated way, she would always come back with "Oh you must be having one of your fits again" actually, I was FINALLY reacting to the abuse not even knowing at the time that it WAS abuse. I was being emotionally and psychologically manipulated. Didn't know it! Also taking personal belongings and hiding them and then claiming they never seen them. Personal Experience just like the movie "Gaslight" Had some personal belongings gone, when i tried to get them back, nope their not here. I knew they were there in the house and so did the Gaslighter. I eventually got some back, an ipad which she claimed was never there. When I finally got the Ipad back, it was disabled cuz "Somebody" (Gaslighter) tried repeatedly to get access to it and it locked them out. AGAIN! she says, Oh No, that didn't happen! YES, Yes It did!! If any of this bahavior sounds familar, your very much involved with an abusive person. Most likely a Covertly Agressive Type. Narcissist through and through but Covertly. Not loud and obvious. One who looks real real sweet to the outside world. Can come across as very down to earth, gentle, kind, caring and even vunerable. These abusers don't abuse everyone. They have to cover them selves up in an extreme way because they know, nobody would ever interact with them if they knew the truth of who they really are. The Person who lives with them and spends alot of alone time with them behind closed doors knows though... Make no mistake, the best description for these blackhearted types is a wolf in sheeps clothing.
