I spend four nights in Madurai, in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Madurai is an ancient city, at least 2500 years old, and is known as the "City of Temples" and the "City that Never Sleeps". I am here for the Pongal harvest festival that marks the passing of winter. Pongal takes place over 3-4 days. I have the unique opportunity to witness a traditional celebration in a village. Also, I attend the jallikattu, a bull-taming event which is a highlight of Pongal celebrations in Tamil Nadu. There was also time for some sightseeing. Madurai is sure to be a memorable trip for me.
