How to Paddle Out Past the Breakers | Learn How to Surf Series

In order to have a great surf session, you need to learn how to paddle out past the breakers or breaking waves. But first, you must have the ability to perform some basic surf skills. Before watching the last video in our learn to surf series, we recommend you watch the first six videos which go over the following principles: 1. How to choose the appropriate surf gear 2. How to manage your surfboard on the beach and have good board control in the water 3. How to turn and stop your board in a controlled fashion from a prone (or laying down) position 4. How to pop up on your surfboard 5. How to stand up on, stop, and fall off of your surfboard safely and effectively 6. How to execute both frontside and backside turns on your surfboard In the seventh and final video of this series, we go over proper surf paddle technique for beginners, as well as the two main ways to get you and your surfboard past the breaking waves and out into “the lineup,” also known as the area past the breakers. In addition, we show the sit and spin method, which is critical to be able to see the oncoming wave, turn the board, and begin paddling for it.
