Takeoff videos: • Many Boeing 747s Takeoff from Hong Kong at... Flying Hong Kong Airlines A320-200 to Okinawa: A Surprising Runway Encounter with Four Boeing 747s at Hong Kong Int'l Airport!! I recently flew on a Hong Kong Airlines A320-200 from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG/VHHH) to Naha Airport in Okinawa, Japan (OKA/ROAH). Though the flight itself was just about two and a half hours, what made the journey truly memorable was the scene before takeoff. As expected, Hong Kong International Airport was extremely busy. Our aircraft taxied to the threshold of Runway 25L, where we had to wait in line as more than 11 aircraft were actively taking off or landing. Alongside us, eight other aircraft were also lined up for departure, creating a spectacular and well-coordinated scene. What made this moment truly special, however, was the unexpected sight of four Boeing 747s (Air ACT 747-400BDSF, Cargolux 747-8F, Asiana Cargo 747-400BDSF and UPS Airlines 747-8F) queued ahead, preparing for takeoff. In an era where most airlines have shifted to more modern twin-engine aircraft, seeing this many 747s—often dubbed the "Queen of the Skies"—was both rare and thrilling. For an aviation enthusiast, it felt like witnessing a legendary gathering. These "Queens of the Skies" now rare sights in the 2020s, had gathered at Hong Kong’s runways by chance, prompting aviation enthusiasts aboard to snap photos of this historic "Four Queens Ensemble"!! Watching these majestic giants slowly taxi, their engines rumbling as they approached liftoff, evoked a deep sense of nostalgia and admiration for the golden age of air travel. And just as I was lost in that moment, our A320-200 finally received clearance and began its takeoff roll—soaring toward the sunny skies and blue seas of Okinawa.
