I spent three days car camping at a new-to-me lake to see if staying right by the water would help me find big bass feeding on stocked trout. I’d only fished this lake once before from a friend’s boat, so this trip was part exploration, part experiment. Because it’s a heavy trout fishery, I assumed big bass would be easy to find and mostly untouched. That wasn’t the case. Saturday brought a ton of boat traffic, pressure was high, and the fishing turned into a grind. Even though the bite was tough, it ended up being an awesome few days. I learned a lot about the lake, tested my car-camping setup, and figured out what it really takes to stay off-grid for multiple days.
