Can you imagine this? You are 17 years old, and armed men warn you that if you say one more word in support of Ukraine, they will throw you into a basement. This is what Margarita lived through under Russian occupation. She was threatened for openly criticizing Russia and its army. To stay alive, Margarita was forced to burn everything Ukrainian she owned: her flag, her diary, her awards, her vyshyvankas. Every symbol of who she was had to be destroyed, so she wouldn’t be taken. The terror didn’t stop there. Russian forces tortured Margarita’s stepfather for two weeks, threatening to kill him unless he accepted a Russian passport. This was her teenage reality: fear, silence, and constant danger. Before the war, Margarita was a professional boxer. A candidate for Master of Sports. She trained hard and dreamed of meeting the Klitschko brothers. Occupation took that life away. Training stopped. Dreams became dangerous. With the support of Save Ukraine and our partners We Are All Ukrainians, Margarita was rescued from occupation and today, she is finally safe. She has returned to training, started studying law, and is rebuilding a future that belongs to her, not to war. “I can go outside, say ‘Glory to Ukraine,’ and nothing will happen to me.” — Margarita says Watch Margarita’s story.
