President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced a new natural gas discovery at Malampaya East-1, located about five kilometers east of the existing Malampaya gas field off Palawan. The discovery is estimated to contain around 98 billion cubic feet of natural gas, along with condensate. According to the President, this is the first major gas discovery in over a decade and could help strengthen the Philippines’ energy security as the Malampaya field nears depletion.
