On top of this, many people repeat mistakes they've made in the past with regards to their shoulder and get re-injured without knowing why. For many people, they lack adequate scapular stability in regards to their scapulothoracic joint. This joint is located between your Scapula and Thorax, or rib cage. If your Scapula is functioning adequately on this joint, you can have good shoulder health. However, if certain muscles are weak in you, while others are tight, the rhythm of your scapula may be thrown off. Now you can get something known as impingement syndrome, where you are jamming structures in your shoulder. This can lead to a shoulder injury over time. To avoid this happening to you, there are certain things you can do. One thing is to strengthen your Lower Trapezius, as that muscle acts with your Upper Traps and Serratus Anterior muscle to upwardly rotate your shoulder blade. To strengthen your lower traps, exercises like the Y in the gym, as well as pulling a lat pulldown bar towards you and holding it can help. For the Serratus, doing Serratus punches are a good exercise to strengthen that muscle. Regarding stretching, you'll wanna stretch your Rhomboids. To do this, make a figure 4 position with your arms and hold. For your Levator Scapulae, another muscle you'll wanna stretch, side bend your head and rotate it to the opposite side. Use your free hand to assist with this stretch. For your Pec Minor, another very important muscle you'll wanna strech, go into the corner of a room and elevate your elbows higher than your shoulders. Lean into that corner to get a good stretch.
