This was my first time fly fishing the Svartá River in Iceland. The river is best known for its salmon fishing, but far upstream it turns into a trout and Arctic char fishery. I came here in early season with no real information about the water – not knowing the size of fish, how many there are, or which techniques work best. That made the day an adventure of exploring crystal-clear pools and fast runs with both a streamer rod and a euro nymphing setup. It didn’t take long before I hooked into my first Arctic char, followed later by some strong Icelandic brown trout with golden sides and blue cheeks. Streamer fishing and euro nymphing gave me a chance to learn the river step by step and see how these fish respond in colder conditions. This stretch of the Svartá River is part of Fish Partner’s Long Valley Lodge program, where anglers can fish a variety of waters in Iceland for salmon, trout, and Arctic char. For me, it was a day of discovery, powerful fish, and a new river I will definitely return to. Trout fishing at Long Valley Lodge: https://fishpartner.com/package_tours...
