In this video I talk about amplitude modulation and side bands. In this form of communications the narrowest bandwidth possible is important to eliminate noise and static. Over modulation causes clipping of the waveforms and as we have seen in previous videos clipping causes harmonics and that will create a wide bandwidth, (as well a just plain distortion). The Fourier series once again helps to explain things. A very fast rise and fall time in a digital wave also creates the need for higher harmonics and a wider bandwidth. This is a problem for amateur radio operators operating a bad transmitter design that creates "key clicks" and creates interference to other operators. It also creates heat and power problems in digital circuits. More details and some links can be found on my web page post associated with this video. http://create-and-make.com/amplitude-...
