The impossible is possible, all you have to do is make it so. Back in May 2023, about a year after my friends introduced me to Hollow Knight, I was recommended Darkcaos's Radiant 1.0 clear, and Guy's 2.0 clear, both of which amazed and intrigued me. I replayed them over and over, analyzing, watching, even in the middle of classes, and I did the same for other clears of the time, but those two especially. I wanted to be like that, I wanted to do the impossible, and I wanted to go beyond. With that summer coming up, and a lot of time to finally push myself to do something truly challenging, I found a working link to 1.0, and suffice to say, I went well farther than probably anyone expected. Just doing what they had done wasn't enough, I wasn't satisfied after my 2.0 clear, and I never was going to be, although much of what I've done in this game I despised doing in the moment, once you reach the end it was all worth it. I never would've expected that in just under a year of beating 2.0, that I would clear it on Radiant, but I'm happy to say now that I did indeed get my cooler looking clear. This is an extreme difficulty jump from Ascended Overcharmed 2.0, I may even believe the jump in terms of raw difficulty to be harder than going from Attuned 1.0 to Overcharmed 2.0 or even Ascended 2.0. Although the knowledge aspect of it has a heavy impact, which by the time you're even close to Radiant 2.0 you should know most of what you need to know. This clear was extremely lucky, I did not expect to clear anywhere near as fast. My consistency is heavily lacking, and I would usually go hours without seeing plats or even sword rain, which made me really not want to play it at all. Even when I did get a good attempt, usually I threw it away in the first two attacks of plats, and then if you pass everything before climb, you have to do 2 extremely precise jumps with nerves, and if you touch the spikes you're guaranteed dead, because the spikes cannot activate Carefree Melody. I did however get a 2 hit clear just a few days before this, which is basically what this completion was, except this had a few more layers of extra rng. This was my 22nd climb, I only got past the skill based part (first two baldur plats) of climb 3 times, my second of those 3 got a 10% chance of Carefree Melody activating, which didn't get the rng necessary on the last baldur platform, and this third climb I had to intentionally run into the beam after seeing her fail to hit me on the third baldur platform, take a risk of a 1/5 chance of Carefree Melody saving me, and actually got it. Both my Ascended Overcharmed and Radiant clears had about a total of 20 climbs (19 and 22 respectively), and both died to the last part of climb due to unfortunate rng twice. For both of these clears, I expected to have 50+ or even 100+ climbs individually. I've been doing something unique since the very start of Anyrad however, which is to have the Death Counter mod on, and I intentionally only played Anyrad on specific saves for specific purposes so I could track the stats more specifically. Saves carry over between devices through Steam, but Death Counter's data does not, so I got back onto my old laptop, and checked all of the saves and added them up. I do not know precisely the exact amount of hours, since I used my main two saves that I first completed the game on for my main 1.0 save and my practice 1.0 save respectively, but everything else I know for a fact is right. The ordering for the damage and deaths is main save (device 1), practice save (device 1), main save (device 2), practice save (device 2). 1.0: Damage: 72160 + 270767 + 1987 + 284 = 345198 Deaths: 6500 + 23795 + 102 + 0 = 30397 Hours: ~115 22 + ~212 25 = ~327 47 2.0: Damage: 148511 + 150422 + 239964 + 50631 = 589528 Deaths: 13520 + 4240 + 21689 + 30 = 39479 Hours: 414 03 + 398 38 = 812 41 Combined Damage: 345198 + 589528 = 934726 Deaths: 30397 + 39479 = 69876 Hours: 327 47 + 812 41 = 1140 28 I plan on going for R5 and at least attempting 3.0, although after how much moth I've done I am certainly not going to commit to any more of this right now. This is probably going to be the hardest thing I ever do, so I hope you enjoy the culmination of thousands of hours of theorizing and playing.
