This third attempt at video with the basic GoPro has taken an age to put together as I’ve been struggling with audio lip sync and codec problems! Initially, I am using MovAvi - but that will be in the bin if the sync is not fixed soon. I had to cut out some commentary also, as the audio is not that great on my particular GoPro which doesn't allow for an extension mic. In this Vid I experimented with some 3D map views using just my Garmin GPS and Basecamp software with BirdsEye and Peak District OS maps installed. It’s not very smooth as required control via the mouse – so back to the drawing board. Still – it’s all good fun I guess, as too is making the music, although I haven’t had time to compose anything new as there are only so many hours in the day but PeakRize was put together for the cave sequence... Getting out and about walking is the main thing and as always in the GPD (Glorious Peak District), that is great – not least to burn off more calories..! Ok, to the walk.. Starting at Hulme End car park, this is a walk up and above the Manifold Valley via the former Manifold Valley Light Railway.. I’m not one for walking tracks but soon after leads off in the less tedious direction towards the hamlet at Wettonmill and onto the impressive Thors Cave. The cave is impressive, as are the views from it, looking out from the 60 foot mouth of the cave across the manifold Valley and its hilly limestone uplands. It is easy to imagine this landscape as once being the sharp and rolling coral reefs. As well as the spectacular views from Thors Cave, the treat further in store for me was the views from Ecton Hill – definitely worth a trip on a clear day. The copper-lead-history steeped hills are dotted with mines - an area that was once the countries busiest copper mines into the 18th century although copper and lead mining pre dates back 3,500 years in this area.
