Alberobello is considered to be the cultural capital of the trulli of the Itria Valley, in the Puglia region. The entire Itria Valley is characterised by the presence of these picturesque constructions finding their roots in the prehistoric era, but it is in Alberobello that the highest concentration of the best-preserved examples can be found. Alberobello's trulli are traditional dry-stone, conical-roofed dwellings forming a UNESCO World Heritage site recognized for their unique construction and historical significance. These structures were built as a tax-evasion technique to appear temporary, and their roofs could be dismantled during inspections.
