In this video, I walk through how I completely overhauled our LED lighting system using WLED, a couple of quirky but capable RGB-LED controllers, and the beautifully built QuinLED AN Penta Plus by ‪@IntermitTech‬ . Whether you're battling flickering lights, harsh brightness, or just want something a bit more elegant than a basic dimmer switch, this setup finally gave us the control and smooth performance we’ve been after for years. I cover the pitfalls of my original DIY controller—built during lockdown with limited parts and questionable decisions—and why it struggled with EMI, low PWM frequency, and abrupt transitions. We dive into why typical RGB setups can’t cut it for proper task lighting, and how the AN Penta Plus steps in to deliver buttery-smooth dimming with no banding or buzzing. You’ll also see how I fixed signal interference using a hacked HDMI cable and some twisted ingenuity—literally. On the RGB side, I show how individually addressable LEDs can be more than just party tricks. From sunrise effects and evening wind-down lighting to triggering light transitions with audio cues or a cheap RF remote via ESP-NOW, the automation possibilities are vast.
