It simply uses headphone jacks. This is a look into their app which is now quite useful. The big fault with this product currently is that it does not have voltage monitoring, so it doesn't know if your house is getting 110 volts or 120 volts, which can change usage by 5% or so. (Update 11/2020, second gen has voltage monitoring.) It also doesn't allow selecting a certain time period to look at. This is mainly a problem when looking at hours, minutes, and seconds because you can't easily scroll back that far. It's not a big deal at day/week/year time periods. Overall, for $99 if you're trying to figure out why your house is using a ton of energy or understand how much electricity one specific item (like an EV) is using, this is a pretty good choice. It will be a great choice once it has voltage monitoring.
