All of these topics, and so much more can be explained by the Earth Sciences. The Earth Sciences include Meteorology, Climate, Oceanography, Geology, Astronomy, Space Weather, and the branches within each of these broad categories. Meteorology is a physics based science that includes chemistry and A LOT of math. It is the study of the atmosphere and what occurs to produce different types of weather. Often confused with weather is climate. Although related, climate involves the study of long term weather patterns, usually over 30 year periods. Weather is the short term condition of the atmosphere. Over 70% of the Earth is ocean and 95% remains unseen. Oceanography is the study of the oceans, their mysteries, and everything they encompass. Geology is much more than just the study of rocks, it is the study of the Earth, what it’s made of, the structure of those materials, and the different processes acting upon them. Geology helps us understand the history of our planet. Astronomy is the study of the universe: galaxies, stars, planets, and all other celestial bodies. It helps us get an idea of how the Earth formed in our solar system. Space Weather is the interactions that occur between the Sun and Earth. All of the Earth Sciences use other sciences like biology, chemistry, and physics to help understand the world we live in.
